Walking Faith Ministry

Walking Faith Ministry in Houston, Texas—widely known through its Children’s Activity Center (CAC) and "Something Good in the Hood" programs—has spent decades bringing hope directly to the city’s most vulnerable neighborhoods. Founded in 1994 by Pastor David Ellis, the ministry was built on a bold premise: if children in high-crime areas like Gulfton cannot easily access a safe place to hear the Gospel and feel loved, the church must bring the sanctuary to them.

Bringing Hope to the Doorstep

At the heart of Walking Faith Ministry's mission is the belief that prevention is better than intervention. By surrounding inner-city youth with positive role models and spiritual guidance early on, they aim to disrupt negative cycles before destructive influences take root.

The ministry reaches over 2,000 children weekly through two primary outreach channels:

Sidewalk Sunday School Trucks: Using custom 14-foot storage trucks that convert into portable stages, teams roll directly into apartment complexes and neighborhood lots. They deliver energetic, high-impact Gospel presentations right where the kids live.

The Children’s Activity Center: On weekends, buses bring kids to their central facility for structured services geared specifically for ages 5 to 12.

More Than Words: Meeting Physical and Spiritual Needs

Walking Faith Ministry recognizes that spiritual nourishment must go hand-in-hand with practical aid. Their outreach extends far beyond weekend services:

  • Feed the Kids Program: Staff and volunteers distribute meals, addressing the physical hunger that many inner-city children face outside of school hours.

  • Relational Visitation: Team leaders routinely visit the homes of participating children, building trusting relationships with families and identifying urgent physical or financial needs.

  • Educational & Recreational Support: Expanded efforts in southwest Houston include Bible-based tutoring, reading assistance, and day camps at Gospel Lakes Ranch.

A Legacy Driven by Volunteers and Interns

Under the leadership of Pastor Scott Binkley, the ministry continues to expand its footprint across Houston through its intensive 6-month urban ministry internship program. Interns gain hands-on experience in street ministry, learning how to mobilize communities, operate Sidewalk Sunday School trucks, and mentor youth.

Through constant prayer, dedicated volunteers, and community partnerships, Walking Faith Ministry remains a steadfast beacon of light—demonstrating that transforming a city starts by loving one child at a time.
